The OEM pump has a fuel bucket that fills from an external filter. The idea behind the bucket design is to keep fuel sloshing down by filling a smaller space around the pump. This design is complicated and harder to work on. Since the filter sits vertically in the tank, it also means it will run out of fuel before a non bucket style design. This is our reason for going to the non-bucket, traditional style design. Just FYI, our shop Xpedition had a fuel pump fail at 2500 miles. The vehicle started running poorly on a ride, then had a no start condition. Some OEM pump designs for this model have a fuel bucket that fills from an external filter. The idea behind the bucket design is to keep fuel sloshing down by filling a smaller space around the pump. This design is complicated and harder to work on. Since the filter sits vertically in the tank, it also means it will run out of fuel before a non bucket style design.
