How to Change the Oil on Your Polaris RZR: A Step-by-Step Guide

Changing the oil in your Polaris RZR is a crucial part of maintaining your vehicle's performance and longevity. This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, ensuring you can perform this task efficiently and safely.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and supplies. You will need:
- New oil (check your owner’s manual for the recommended type and amount)
- Oil pan
- 14 MM Allen Wrench set
- Funnel
- Rags for cleanup

Step 2: Warm Up Your Engine

Start your Polaris RZR and let it run for a few minutes. Warming up the engine helps the oil flow more easily, making the draining process easier.
*The KEY word here is WARM, not HOT!

Step 3: Drain the Old Oil

Turn off the engine and locate the oil drain plug underneath your RZR. *BE CAREFUL THE OIL MIGHT BE HOT! Place the oil pan under the drain plug and carefully remove the plug with a 14 mm Allen wrench. Allow the old oil to fully drain into the pan.

Step 4: Replace the Oil Filter

Once the oil has drained, move to the oil filter. Use a filter wrench to remove the old filter. Apply a little bit of new oil to the rubber seal of the new filter, then screw it in place by hand. Do not overtighten.

Step 5: Add New Oil

Find the oil filler cap on top of the engine. Remove the cap and use a funnel to pour the new oil into the engine. Be sure to use the exact amount recommended in your owner’s manual. (Usually 2.5 Quarts)

Step 6: Check Oil Level

Replace the filler cap and start the engine, letting it run for a few minutes. Turn off the engine and wait for a few minutes before checking the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary. *be careful the dipstick may be hot.

Conclusion

Changing the oil on your Polaris RZR is a simple process that you can do yourself with the right tools and knowledge. Regular oil changes will keep your RZR's engine healthy and running smoothly and ensure top performance during your off-road adventures.
Ensure you dispose of the old oil and filter properly by taking them to a recycling center or auto parts store that accepts used oil.
