Dune riding puts sustained load on a UTV's engine, cooling system, belt, clutching and suspension. A pre-trip inspection can help prevent a small issue from ending a riding weekend early.
Dune-Season UTV Checklist
- Inspect the CVT belt for wear or damage
- Check engine oil, coolant and drivetrain fluids
- Inspect air filtration and intake sealing
- Check brakes, bearings, steering and suspension
- Inspect tires, wheels and lug hardware
- Test battery and charging performance
- Check for fluid leaks and loose hardware
Heat and Sand Matter
Sand increases drivetrain load while hot conditions make cooling performance especially important. Machines with larger tires, clutch changes or other modifications may require additional attention before a dune trip.
