Tender springs are the upper springs in many stacked UTV coil-over assemblies. They work alongside the main springs, but their role depends on the spring rates and shock design. The name alone does not tell you how a particular setup works.
What do tender springs do?
An active upper spring can change the initial response of the spring combination. A very soft helper-style spring may mainly keep the spring stack seated when the suspension extends. That is why you should choose a kit made for your specific machine and shocks.
Does a compressed tender spring mean it has failed?
No. Some factory upper springs are intended to be compressed at normal ride height. Check the manufacturer’s intended setup, measured ride height and physical spring condition. A photograph of a compressed spring by itself does not diagnose the problem.
