UTV Lighting Guide
The best UTV lighting setup depends on what you need to see. Long-range forward lighting, close-range trail visibility, side lighting, and visibility around the machine all call for different products and beam patterns.
Light bar or pod lights?
Light bars can provide broad forward coverage and are available in many widths. Pod lights are compact and easy to place where you need targeted light, including A-pillars, bumpers, rear cargo areas, or side lighting.
Spot, flood, or combo beam?
- Spot: narrower beam for distance.
- Flood: wider beam for closer trail and work-area visibility.
- Combo: mixes distance and width in one light.
What are LED whips for?
LED whips improve the machine's visibility to other riders and add customizable lighting. Check mounting style, whip height, quick-release compatibility, wiring, controller features, and local riding-area requirements.
What are rock lights good for?
Rock lights illuminate the area around and under the vehicle. They are useful for low-speed trail visibility, camp setup, loading, and checking the ground around the machine after dark.
Do I need to upgrade my battery?
That depends on the total electrical load and how the machine is used. Add up the current draw of your accessories and consider charging-system output, battery condition, accessory use at idle, and whether other high-draw equipment is already installed.
Before wiring new lights
Use properly sized wire, fusing, relays or controllers when required, weather-resistant connections, and secure routing away from heat and moving parts. Follow the light manufacturer's installation instructions.
