Description

Fix the sag. Calm the harshness. Enjoy the machine again.

Your General XP Should Ride as Good as It Works

A Polaris General XP carries passengers, tools, hunting gear, coolers, roofs, windshields, and everything else you add to it. That weight exposes one of the factory suspension’s biggest weaknesses: the tender springs can settle or collapse, leaving the machine sagging and forcing it onto the firmer part of the suspension too soon.

This model-specific tender spring kit restores the softer initial spring stage, brings back lost ride height, and delivers a night-and-day improvement in comfort over chop, rocks, roots, and rough ranch roads.

What Changes After the Upgrade?

Smoother small-bump response
The softer initial rate starts moving sooner instead of sending every sharp edge through the chassis and seats.
Less sag under real-world weight
Restore a proper stance when your General is carrying passengers, cargo, accessories, or hunting equipment.
More usable suspension travel
Recover ride height so the suspension has room to work before the skid plate or bump stops become part of the ride.
More controlled handling
Better weight distribution helps the machine feel flatter and more predictable through corners and uneven terrain.
Expert reality check: This is not a generic spacer lift and it does not replace the shocks. It replaces the tender springs on your existing Fox or Walker Evans assemblies. Final ride height depends on preload, accessories, passenger/cargo weight, tire size, and the condition of the rest of the suspension.

Why Tender Springs Make Such a Big Difference

Your shock uses more than one spring rate. The tender spring handles the first part of suspension travel and the main spring takes over deeper in the stroke. When the stock tender is already compressed at ride height, that softer stage is effectively gone. The machine can feel harsh even though it is sitting low.

Replacing the worn or undersprung tender restores that first stage. That is why this upgrade can improve comfort and stance at the same time—it lets the suspension begin working earlier while preserving the support of the main spring for larger hits. For a deeper explanation, read R1’s dual-rate UTV suspension guide and tender spring buyer’s guide.

Choose the Correct Kit

Selection Choose This When
2020+ General XP 2 Seat Your machine is the 64-inch-wide two-seat General XP.
2020+ General XP 4 Seat Your machine is the 64-inch-wide four-seat General XP.
Walker Evans Your factory shock body or reservoir is labeled Walker Evans.
Fox Your factory shock body or reservoir is labeled FOX.
Before ordering: Verify the seat configuration and shock brand on the machine itself. Model year alone is not enough if shocks have been swapped. If anything is unclear, contact R1’s fitment team before ordering.

Installation & Setup

The shocks must be safely unloaded before spring removal. The rear General shocks are removed for installation, and a proper spring compressor is strongly recommended. After installation, settle the suspension, measure ride height on level ground, and adjust preload in small increments. Torque all shock hardware to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.

If you are not experienced with loaded coil springs, have a qualified suspension shop perform the installation.

Common Questions

Will this fix a sagging Polaris General XP?

It is designed to replace the factory tender springs that commonly settle or collapse. That can restore approximately 2–3 inches of ride height and return usable suspension travel. Results vary with added weight, preload, tires, and overall suspension condition.

Will it actually make the ride smoother?

Yes. Restoring the softer initial spring stage helps the suspension respond to small bumps and trail chatter before the firmer main spring takes over. The manufacturer reports an improvement of more than 80%; the exact feel depends on setup and vehicle weight.

Is this a lift kit?

Not in the conventional spacer-lift sense. The added height comes from correcting spring sag and setting proper preload while retaining the factory shock geometry.

Do I reuse my factory main springs?

Yes. This is a tender spring replacement kit for the existing shock assemblies, not a complete main-and-tender dual-rate spring package.

How do I know whether I have Fox or Walker Evans shocks?

Check the label or engraving on the shock body or reservoir. Select the matching brand above. Contact R1 Industries before ordering if the identification is unclear.

Will this solve every bottoming-out problem?

It improves ride height and suspension response, but repeated bottoming can also indicate excessive vehicle weight, incorrect preload, worn shocks, or a need for a complete spring-rate and damping upgrade.

What warranty backs the springs?

All Thingz UTV promotes its spring kits with a lifetime warranty and satisfaction guarantee. Warranty administration and exclusions follow the manufacturer’s current policy.

Stop Letting Collapsed Factory Tenders Ruin the Ride

Select your 2-seat or 4-seat model, match the shock brand, choose your color, and give your General XP back the stance and smoothness it should have had.

New tender springs

This is a case of you get what you pay for! The difference in the ride is much better. I got about 2 1/2 inches more ground clearance. Called customer service with a couple questions, and they were OUTSTANDING! Will definitely do more business with them when I can. If you’re on the fence about these, just do it. You will be very pleased with the results!!!
