Steering and braking problems we inspect

Steering and brake wear directly affects how the machine tracks, responds and stops. Inspection should consider the whole system around the symptom rather than one isolated part.

Steering diagnosis

Inspection for looseness, play, abnormal steering feel, rack issues and supported steering-component wear.

Tie rods & joints

Inspection and replacement of supported worn tie rods, rod ends, joints and related steering hardware.

Brake service

Supported brake inspection, pad replacement, rotor and hydraulic diagnosis, and repair based on condition.

Alignment-related issues

Diagnosis when a UTV pulls, tracks poorly or shows uneven tire wear after steering or suspension changes.

When to bring your UTV in

  • Steering feels loose or wanders
  • The UTV pulls to one side
  • There is clunking or play in the front end
  • Brake pedal feel has changed
  • Brakes squeal, grind or feel weak
  • Tires show uneven wear
  • Steering changed after an impact or suspension work

Start with the symptom, not a guessed part. Our service team can inspect the machine and help determine the next step before parts are replaced unnecessarily.

Riley Erickson working on a shock in the R1 workshop
Riley Erickson, owner and founder of R1 Industries.

Meet Riley Erickson • Owner & founder

He rides.
He builds.
He expects it done right.

The work starts with Riley’s standards. He learned to love working on things alongside his dad, a military mechanic who could fix just about anything. After retiring from the military, his dad now works with the R1 team. That lesson stayed with Riley: understand the problem, care about the details and do the job correctly.

As a husband, dad and rider, Riley knows what it means when a machine lets you down. He built R1 to help people enjoy the trails, the water, the outdoors and time with their families.

Quality still matters.
An honest day’s work still means something.

The R1 standard

Done right.
Checked three times.

A torque wrench. The correct specification. A visible mark on every serviced fastener. Those details tell the next inspector exactly what was touched and what to check. Riley expects every completed repair to pass through three people, with each inspection building on the last.

3 Person Final Inspection Process

Torqued to spec. Marked. Checked again.

1. The technician

The technician completes the work, uses torque wrenches to tighten serviced bolts to specification, then marks the nuts and bolts. Before handing the machine off, the technician inspects their own work and checks the details of the repair.

2. The shop manager

Our shop manager meticulously audits the completed work. Every bolt touched gets checked, torque is verified again, and the marks show exactly where to look. Detailed photos are added to your service record to document the work and inspection before the next handoff.

3. The service writer

Our service writer goes out to the machine for a final inspection. If anything falls short, it goes back to the shop for correction. We invest the extra time, money and effort because customers deserve work done right the first time.

Meet the rider, dad and builder behind R1.

Riley Erickson is a former USA Junior Olympic champion and college baseball player. The drive that shaped him as an athlete still shapes how he runs R1: pay attention to the details, hold a high standard and do the work correctly the first time.

His dad was an exceptionally capable mechanic who served in the military as a mechanic. Growing up working alongside him, Riley learned to love understanding how things work, finding what is wrong and fixing it properly. After retiring from the military, his dad now works with the R1 team. He also spent many years running Wedding Cakes by Dawna in Utah, bringing extensive business experience alongside his mechanical knowledge.

Today, Riley is a husband and dad who loves camping with his family of five. He hunts, fishes, farms, boats, jet skis and rides dirt bikes. He owns three UTVs, enjoys yard work and cares deeply about having equipment that works the way it should. Helping other riders enjoy those same hobbies is what makes this business personal.

Riley started R1 Industries in his basement in 2016, building LED light whips. His attention to detail and product quality helped the business grow quickly. He earned customers’ trust by standing behind those early whips with a no-questions-asked warranty, covering what happened to them.

In 2018, the business moved into the garage of his new home. Customers came by every day to pick up whips, while Riley rebuilt shocks daily. By 2020, the business needed a 5,800-square-foot warehouse in Lindon. R1 operated there for five years and had outgrown the space within the first two.

Riley’s love of speed also led him to open a full dyno shop, where machines were tuned day after day. R1 eventually moved into a 20,000-square-foot facility in Pleasant Grove, in the heart of Utah County, with plenty of parking and easy trailer access.

Riley is at R1 every day, working with a team he considers his best friends. He is demanding about the quality of their work because your machine matters. Corners do not get cut. The final work goes through a detailed process with three people checking it off.

R1 exists to prove that quality still matters and an honest day’s work still means something. That is the standard Riley brings to the shop, the team and every customer relationship.
