R1 buying guide
How to Choose a Remanufactured Polaris Transmission
Match the gearbox first, then decide which available upgrades fit the way you use your Ranger, RZR, General or XPEDITION.
Confirm the gearbox before choosing an upgrade
A remanufactured transmission is a complete-assembly buying decision. Match the model year, seating configuration and original main gearcase number first. Ranger, RZR, General and XPEDITION applications are listed separately, and a transmission that looks similar can still be the wrong choice.
Have the problem diagnosed before ordering. A drivability complaint may involve the belt, clutch, linkage or another part of the drivetrain. A replacement gearbox should follow a confirmed need, not serve as a guess at the cause.

Understand the upgrade menu
| Choice | What to discuss with R1 |
|---|---|
| Standard / None | A replacement without selecting an optional upgrade package; verify the base rebuild contents. |
| Gear reduction | Ask for the exact reduction available for that gearbox and whether it suits your tire size and use. There is no universal percentage for every CW transmission. |
| Dual-reverse chain upgrade | Available on selected listings. Confirm that the option exists for your exact assembly. |
| Treated/polished gearset | A separate build choice on selected transmissions. Ask about current build timing and compatibility with your application. |
| Combined upgrade | Choose the specific combined option shown on the product page when available; do not assume independent options can all be stacked. |
Turf-mode deletion is a buying decision
CW states that turf mode is deleted on many of these remanufactured transmission listings. If retaining turf mode matters to your use, resolve that before ordering. Do not assume the remanufactured assembly preserves every original operating feature.
R1’s recommendation is to start with the standard replacement unless an upgrade solves a defined need. Tire size, terrain, load and the exact transmission should guide the conversation; a higher-priced option is not automatically the right choice for every machine.
Warranty, core and freight
CW transmission listings include a 90-day limited manufacturer warranty. Read coverage and core-return details and keep the original protective packaging. CW distinguishes a reusable core from a damaged one, so discuss cracks or other known damage before ordering.
Replacement-unit shipping and core-return shipping are included within the lower 48 states. Rebuild time and transit time are separate; ask for the current schedule before planning a ride or booking installation.
The deposit currently shown on an R1 product page and a supplier’s possible damaged/missing-core charge are not interchangeable. If your core is unusable or missing, get the complete quote from R1 first.
Questions before you order
Can I add every transmission upgrade together?
Only use the valid combinations listed for the specific product. Some assemblies offer combined packages; others offer fewer choices.
Will a remanufactured transmission keep turf mode?
Many CW listings state that turf mode is removed. Confirm your exact product before purchase if that feature is important.
Does transmission warranty coverage include installation labor?
CW excludes removal and installation labor. Arrange any warranty claim with R1/CW before repairs or disassembly.
